PAGE ONE - CPU CRUNCH

We don't have all the results yet but we're giving you what we have so far on the new iMac G5s (2.1GHz and 1.9GHz) compared to the previous model (2.0GHz). I hypothesized that we'd see small gains in CPU intensive tasks and big gains in graphics (GPU) intensive tasks.

I noticed in various discussion groups that many consumers are trying to decide between the high end iMac and low end Power Mac. So I included the results from the Dual-Core G5/2.0GHz Power Mac.

ANALYSIS OF CPU CRUNCHING
As expected, the iMac G5/2.1 is slightly (7%) faster than the previous 2.0GHz model when it comes to tasks that are CPU intensive. The real fun begins when you run graphics intensive applications.

WHERE TO ORDER YOUR iMAC

When ordering products from Apple Store USA, please click THIS TEXT LINK or any Apple display ad as your "portal" to the online store. In so doing, you help to support Bare Feats.

WHERE TO BUY REFURBISHED or CLOSEOUT MACS (12 month warranty)
For refurbished, reconditioned, open box (as well as new) iMacs, check with Small Dog and Power Max. Also look for the "SPECIAL DEALS" link on Apple's online store.

If you live in the San Diego area, visit my good friends at CryWolf. They not only do special orders but have great training events.

NOTES ON DO-IT-YOURSELF UPGRADES
I seen two different diassembly instructions for the new iMacs and partially disassembled one myself. It's not nearly as easy to open up as the previous model. If you are not an experienced technician, I don't recommend trying to upgrade the hard drive. The one memory expansion slot is user serviceable, but be aware that not all PC-4200 memory works.
